Hattiesburg Zoo constructing new entrance, relocating some animal exhibits in 2026
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - The front of the Hattiesburg Zoo is getting a major makeover in 2026.
A new zoo entrance is being built, and ticketing is moving closer to the parking lot.
Also, a new education area and gift shop are being constructed, along with new offices for education staff.
Meanwhile, some animals at the zoo will get new homes this year.
Servals, lemurs and some birds of prey will be relocated to new exhibits in 2026.
“We’re moving our servals, we’re very close to that, so that our lemurs can move into the cervals’ old house,” said Rick Taylor, executive director of the Hattiesburg Convention Commission.
“That will allow us to bring additional raptors that we have in another area of the zoo up front, right by the golden eagles.”
The zoo is also relocating its petting zoo and is bringing in four new spider monkeys this year.
“All of this will add greater excitement at the zoo, more in-depth interaction and educational opportunities and set the stage then for future larger developments,” Taylor said.
In a few months, the zoo will also wrap up a year-long celebration of its 75th anniversary.
