BAY SPRINGS, Miss. (WDAM) - As 2025 comes to an end, leaders in Bay Springs are looking back on the city’s growth and development.

“Bay Springs has really got just about everything you need,” Bay Springs Mayor Donald Brown said. “It may not have everything you want, but it has everything you need in most cases.”

Several restaurants and businesses have set up shop in the city since late 2024.

Most of them are located in Downtown Bay Springs along Brick Street.

“The Camp House, Papa Dough’s, The Cajun Village and Up In Smoke, plenty to eat,” Brown said. “We got children’s clothes and Addy B’s and The Pink Panda.”

While the issue of finding a good food spot has been resolved, Brown said the city still hasn’t had any luck finding a grocery store to replace the Corner Market that closed two years ago.

“We haven’t heard anything lately,” said Brown. “I’ve got an appointment with someone to speak with them about a possibility. So, we just keep chiseling away at it.”

On a good note, crews nearly are finished installing a new sidewalk along Mississippi 15 for those who like to get their daily steps in.

Brown said another sidewalk could be coming soon near the schools of the West Jasper School District.

“We had a design change that took a little bit of time, but other than that, we’re just about done with that,” Brown said. “I think it’ll help people have a safe way from one side of town to the other.

Brown said projects were just one part of the city’s efforts to boost recreation in Bay Springs.

Leaders said they also hope to make a few upgrades to draw more people out to the city’s park.

“Playground materials or something for the kids,” Brown said. “Maybe a walking track or something. You never know what we might be able to do.”

Brown said city leaders also were working hard to attract new industries that will create new job opportunities for Bay Springs residents, though, so far, nothing has been set it stone.
