Unlimited Dreams Christian Learning Center starts 7th school year
LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) - Monday marked the start of the seventh school year for Unlimited Dreams Christian Learning Center.
Founder Dr. Amanda Cooley says that in less than a decade, the school has established a standard of greatness that they plan to uphold.
“We’re expecting greatness from all the kids,” Cooley said. “We have a lot of students this year. We have a few new faces, but most of all we’re still just growing as a family with the children.”
Cooley says that at every stage, Unlimited Dreams has one big priority, and this year is no different.
“We’re going to be big on comprehension. We want to make sure that our literacy campaign is instilled; it starts within,” she said.
For five students, this will be their last year on Unlimited Dreams campus.
Each senior looks forward to the same experience.
“To learn more things, to graduate and just have a good year,” senior Myrianna Bolton said.
The seniors have been under Cooley’s leadership for three to eight years.
“I’m just ready to graduate, but she really did better, doing this school for all the kids she can help,” senior Shermiracle Ducksworth said. “I been here since fourth grade...”
Others are looking forward to their next steps.
“Take in new knowledge, and learn more, and graduate, and go to college, become something of myself,” senior Omaurious Ward said.
The seniors hope to use this school year to gather every lesson they can.
“Learn new stuff, and get more life skills so I can know how to handle myself once I move out of my parents’ house,“ senior Deporres Windham said.
Cooley says the school is also looking forward to a new addition in the community: The Keys Success Center.
It will be down the street from Unlimited Dreams at 1101 Second Ave in Laurel.
“It’ll be a place to where, if our students need help with their homework or their parents need a little help with their reading boards or any other things that they may not have at home that we have at the center, they’ll be welcome to come use them,” Cooley said.
She says this resource will be for everyone, not just Unlimited Dreams, as women’s Bible study and book clubs will be held there.
The Keys Success Center is expected to open in October.
