History/geography teacher named ’2026 Humanities Teacher of the Year’ at Jones College

ELLISVILLE, Miss. (WDAM) - The Mississippi Humanities Council honored a history and geography teacher as Jones College’s 2026 Humanities Teacher of the Year Wednesday morning.

Each year, the state humanities council recognizes a teacher at each of the state’s junior colleges and universities, and this year’s recipient at Jones College was Dr. Caleb Smith.

Smith started working at Jones College in 2008, starting his career in adult education and moved into an instructional role in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Smith has presented for the Southeastern Division of the Association of American Geographers.

He also has published work in several academic journals.

On Wednesday, his presentation was entitled “How the School of Popular Culture Unites, Divides and Shapes Perceptions.”

“I’m grateful to the administration, the faculty and staff here at Jones,” said Smith. “I work with some tremendous people and I love what I do and they love what they do and I’m just honored to be here.”
