Hattiesburg man shot, killed; suspect turns himself in, charged with murder
LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - A 19-year-old Hattiesburg man has been arrested and charged with murder in a fatal shooting Saturday night in Lamar County.
Jamario Deshaun Callaway turned himself in to the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office Sunday after an arrest warrant had been sworn, naming him as a suspect in a shooting that left a 29-year-old Hattiesburg man dead.
Lamar County Coroner Blake Matherne identified the victim as Shawndarin Terrell Porter.
The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of multiple gunshots being heard in the area of McKenzie Circle Saturday night.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered Porter, who had been shot several times, LCSO said.
An initial investigation produced Callaway as a suspect, LCSO said, and warrants were issued for his arrest.
LCSO said Callaway turned himself in Sunday and was booked into the Lamar County Jail on a charge of murder.
Callaway will remain in jail while awaiting his first appearance in Lamar County Justice Court.
LCSO said the investigation was ongoing.
