Miss. Blood Services seeks new donations after partner organization suffers ransomware attack

Mississippi Blood Services is asking for new blood donations after one of its partner organizations was the victim of a recent ransomware attack.

More blood is needed to help “OneBlood,” a non-profit blood provider serving hospitals across the Southeast.

Mississippi Blood Services is a member of the Blood Emergency Readiness Corps, a network of providers who support each other if there is an emergency need.

Mississippi Blood Services was at Covington County Hospital Thursday for a previously scheduled blood drive.

“The other blood centers that are around are notified that there could be a situation where we would need to help their hospitals that they serve be able to receive some blood products,” said Dana Brohaugh, Mississippi Blood Services marketing representative. “So, right now, we are gearing up, just in case, that there’s a situation where we are going to have to ship blood, not only to the hospitals we already serve, but to hospitals that they serve.”
