Ethanol Leak at Train Depot in Hattiesburg

A small ethanol leak from a train car caused traffic to be re-directed around the train depot early this morning. Hattiesburg fire and police deparments responded to a call from the railroad company saying there were loose valves on one of the cars. A specialist with the fire department was able to tighten those valves. No one was hurt, however workers at the depot were evacuated. Fire officials say the leak could've been dangerous had it not been caught in time.

Richard Pickering ,the Hattiesburg Fire Department Chief, said, "I wouldn't say this was an extremely dangerous situation. It had a potential to be had there been a major leak but since the car was not leaking much it really was not a huge thing at all it was very minimum."

Am-track trains were stopped for a little while until safety crews gave the go ahead.
