Sara Lee says it will lay off nearly 1,700 employees as part of a reorganization plan designed to increase business performance. Most of the layoffs will be at the company's pork processing plant in West Point. About 1,200 workers at the factory and an accompanying Flavo-Tech spice production plant at the site were told of the layoffs Monday. The Downers Grove-based food and household products maker says it will close the Mississippi factories on March 30th. Another 489 workers will also be laid off around the globe, as part of the restructuring plan.
