FRANKLIN COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Jones County man accused of killing a Clarke County woman is set to go on trial Monday in Franklin County.
Greg Burroughs, 42, was charged with manslaughter in the death of 23-year-old Katherine Sinclair. Sinclair was found shot in the head inside her car at Burroughs' home in Laurel on June 1, 2017, after Burroughs called the police. Sinclair died the next day.
On Oct. 30, 2017, Burroughs, who was Sinclair's boyfriend at the time of her death, turned himself in to authorities after a Jones County grand jury indicted him for the manslaughter.
The case was originally presented before a grand jury in September 2017, but the grand jury requested more documents before continuing.
Burroughs filed a recusal motion against Jones Count Circuit Judge Dal Williamson, which was denied by the Mississippi Supreme Court.
On May 29, 2018, the family of Sinclair filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Burroughs.
According to the lawsuit, Burroughs "wrongfully, intentionally and/or negligently" shot Sinclair, causing her death. The suit also claimed Burroughs failed to "maintain control of a firearm and or operate a firearm in a safe and reasonably prudent manner."
Burroughs is currently out on a $125,000 bond.
The trial will be in the Franklin County Courthouse in Meadville starting at 9 am.
