COLLINS, MS (WDAM) - An 18-year-old man was shot and killed late Friday night in Collins.

Authorities responded to a report of shots fired around 9:30 p.m. When they arrived on scene, Dementric Fairley was discovered lying on the ground suffering from a gun-shot wound. The Collins native was shot at a back-to-school event at the City of Collins Depot around 10 p.m., police say.

Covington County coroner, Chris Daquila, says Fairley suffered one gun-shot wound to the head. He was taken to the Covington County Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
