HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The 2018 VEX State Robotics Championship was held today at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Hundreds of kids from schools all over the state competed in teams of two with VEX Robots that they built themselves.

Each team is challenged to complete certain tasks within a certain amount of time and then scored accordingly.

There are several divisions with different age categories.

"This is the best of the best," said Jennifer Richardson, state coordinator of the Mississippi VEX robotics championship. "These are the kids that have completed all year, and they've made it to the championship. That means a ton to them."

The winners from this, in several age categories, will qualify to go to the VEX World Championship in April.
