JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - This is a news release from the Jones County Fire Council.

While several Jones County volunteer fire units were working the scene of a house fire on Matthews Road, a tragic call came through for a tractor accident involving one victim.

Emergency Medical Responders with Calhoun Volunteer Fire Department were returning to their station from assisting Shady Grove with the house fire when the call was made.

The EMR's were near the scene of the accident on Service Road and quickly responded. Upon arrival, they found a tractor sitting upright in pond near the water's edge with the tractor operator lying on the ground next to it. The man was provided life support until EMServ arrived and evaluated his condition. Only then were the lifesaving measures stopped at the direction of Emserv. The cause of the accident is unknown.

The name of the deceased individual will not be released until his family has been notified.

Emergency personnel on scene included Calhoun and Pleasant Ridge Volunteer Fire Departments, Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna, EMServ Ambulance Service, Jones County Fire Public Information Officer Caleb Worrell, Jones County Sheriff's Department and Jones County Coroner's Office.
