RAWL SPRINGS, MS (WDAM) - The city of Hattiesburg is facing more pushback against annexation.
In a few days, an attorney for the Rawls Springs Utility District is filing a motion to dismiss the city's proposal, saying Hub City officials have failed to meet the requirements to take over the area.
Its attorney, Robin Roberts, said Hattiesburg would have to expand its annexation plan to the entire utility district and absorb responsibility for the current water, sewer and debt.
"They can't pick and choose which parts they get, which means they get all the debt, all the operations, and have to provide water and sewer for the whole area, which we do not believe they will be willing to do," Roberts said.
Roberts is filing a motion to dismiss and to start separating the Rawl Springs area from the Bellevue annexation plans.
