HPD DUI officer receives awards

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg Police Officer Jason Jarvis has been working as a DUI officer in the Hub City for roughly two years.

In that time he has stacked up over 600 DUI arrests, and recently was presented a pair of awards from the State of Mississippi for his work.

"It really means a lot for my community, this is how I repay the community," said Hattiesburg Police Officer Jason Jarvis. "I get these drivers off the streets, that's my main goal is to make these streets safer for everyone to operate."

Jarvis received an award from the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign for 23 DUI arrests in a two-week period in 2015, and another for the most DUI arrests in the state, with 353.

"When you are driving along the highways you want to know that it's safe, the car next to you is safe, and they are not impaired in some way and if they are I take pride in getting those people off the streets," said Jarvis.

"We are here doing everything we can to keep everyone safe," said Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler.
