HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - About a hundred students gathered at the fountain at USM for a moment of silence on Thursday to show their solidarity with Mizzou.
A student released a flier staging the moment of silence at the fountain at noon.
Senior English major Anika Butler led the moment of silence.
"It's really about the students at Mizzou, about supporting them and showing them that we care all the way down here in Mississippi," Butler said. "Right now were at a predominantly white institution ourselves, so to see them go through something like that breaks my heart because I couldn't see something like that happening to me at Southern Miss."
This moment of silence was in response to black students feeling threatened after students said administrators were not doing enough for their minority groups on campus.
