LUMBERTON, MS (WDAM) - A Lumberton man is behind bars and facing child exploitation charges after an incident with a family member.

Craig Scheurich Jr., 28, was arrested early this morning and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and child exploitation.

"He was allegedly conducting a lewd act in the car in front of the home where a 15 year-old was staying at the time," said Lumberton Police Department Capt. Daniel Wilczek.

Police say the incident occurred last week on South 10th avenue in the city of Lumberton.

"The girl came out of the house, and got in the car and he then locked the door with her inside," said Wilczek. "She was eventually able to get out of the vehicle and apparently he came up behind her and tried to whisper things to her and then made her touch him."

"At some point during this, he allegedly gave her a half of a xanax bar, and she eventually got away," said Wilczek.

Police say after this incident, it was reported to their department.

Scheurich was denied bond, and is currently housed in the Lamar County Jail.
