Second Amendment sales tax holiday starts Friday
MISSISSIPPI (WDAM) - This is a news release from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor
Friday marks the start of the Second Amendment sales tax weekend, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves said today.
All day Friday, Saturday and Sunday, outdoor enthusiasts can see a break on supplies for hunting gear, including gun safes, archery equipment and ammunition. The initiative is similar to a sales tax break offered in Louisiana.
"Hunting is the favorite pastime of so many Mississippians and a major tourism draw for rural areas," Lt. Gov. Reeves said. "The Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday is a way to make these sports a little less expensive and encourage more families to enjoy the outdoors."
Lt. Gov. Reeves and the National Rifle Association worked closely to place the sales tax break into law. For a full list of items eligible for the sales tax exemption, visit https://www.dor.ms.gov/docs/2015SecondAmendmentSalesTaxHoliday.pdf.
