Seminary police looking for Dollar General robber

SEMINARY, MS (WDAM) - The Seminary Police Department is looking for the suspect who robbed the Dollar General store located on Main Street.

Chief Michael Kelly said the store was broken into around 4 a.m. Monday. He said employees discovered the store was robbed when they arrived to work that morning.

The department has obtained surveillance video of the suspect. Security cameras show the person squatting low as they walked throughout the store. Chief Kelly believes the suspect was trying to avoid the security system. The motion activated cameras only captured part of the crime committed by the suspect.

"The person really did a good job of concealing their identity, made entry into the store by removing some sheet metal on the side of the building and chopped its way through a wall," said Chief Kelly. "Went to the cash register or the safe and took the hinges off the safe, completely destroyed the front of the safe, and stole the money that was in the safe which amounted to be $1600."

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the Seminary Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 601-582-STOP.

"He left the store with an axe, so that's a really good indicator if you saw somebody in your neighborhood walking down the street with an axe we need to know who that person is," said Chief Kelly.

The department believes the robbery is part of an organized crime ring since several Dollar General stores have been broken into the same way throughout Mississippi.

"Obviously if you squat low enough you're able to avoid the security system," said Chief Kelly. "He knew what he was doing to be able to do that."
