The Affinity Retreat of Hattiesburg donated money to two local animal shelters Monday.
Southern Pines Animal Shelter and Hub City Humane Society each received checks for $1,300. The donated funds will be used to feed, house, and care for the dogs and cats in the shelters.
"It truly will make a difference for the animals in our care," said Ginny Sims, manager at Southern Pines. "Every donation that we receive really is lives saved."
After their beloved four-legged best friend, Thomas, passed away, the owners of Affinity Retreat wanted to do something in his memory.
"We were going to do a memorial for him," said Dale Head, owner of Affinity Retreat. "But then we decided to do something bigger."
They hosted a fundraising event called Craws for Paws. Folks from the community attended, enjoying the crawfish boil and kids' activities. The fundraiser was an enormous success and brought in over $2,000.
Craws for Paws will be held again next year in early May.
