Forty student candidates were inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the premier honor society recognizing the highest standards in business excellence. Among the first-time inductees were 16 juniors, 15 seniors, and six graduate students. Three graduate students were also inducted as 2nd Recognition Members, meaning they were inducted into BGS as undergraduates but achieved the academic standing to also be inducted as graduate students.

Additionally, Charles C. "Chuck Scianna, Jr. was inducted as a Chapter Honoree and Dr. Brigitte Burgess, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Assessment, was inducted as a Faculty Member.

Dr. Gallayanee Yaoyuneyong, a professor in the Department of Marketing and Merchandising, received the Joseph A. Greene Excellence in Teaching Award. Part of Dr. Yaoyuneyong's teaching philosophy is to equip students with the tools necessary for real life. "It is important not only to acquire knowledge and skill, but also to know how to best apply one's knowledge and skills in diverse circumstances" she said.

The Dr. Louis K. Brandt Publication Award was given to Brian J. Collins, an associate professor in the Department of Management and international Business. In 2014, Collins published articles in Journal of Management and Leadership Quarterly. His research focuses on employee responses to supervisory treatment and how these perceptions influence workplace behavior.

Kent McCarty, a senior graduating with a degree in finance, received the Outstanding Student Award for the College of Business. The award is the highest honor that a student in the College of Business can receive. McCarty is a Presidential Scholar and a member of Gamma Beta Phi, Alpha Lambda Delta, and Lambda Sigma honors societies.

In 2012, he started Java Moe' Coffee Company and by the end of the year had expanded to three locations.
