LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Rosemary Smith received the Business Woman of the Year Award from the Mississippi Business Journal.
The Mississippi Business Journal looks for the most powerful, influential business leaders in Mississippi each year. The Organization encompasses training with ongoing opportunities for the inducted women to grow together as leaders.
"I started a business in 1982 and I started off in a pickup truck," Rosemary Smith said. "I was doing what they call Hot Shot Services. That's when people go in to drill at drilling sites, they need parts delivered to their locations and I started that with one pickup truck."
Smith owns R&R rentals and Hot Shot, Inc,.in Sandersville. It provides 80% of oil field rental equipment to drilling sites throughout Mississippi, Alabama and parts of Louisiana.
"As time went on, I added rental equipment and worked a lot of long hard hours and went an extra mile for every customer," Smith said. "I developed a relationship with. Through the years, just improved and things got better, I've become more independent."
Fifty women are selected from all received nominations. They are given the chance to network and share success stories. The group is narrowed to a top ten, and one worthy participant is selected. Mississippi Business Journal nominees make a positive impact on the economy of our state.
Smith says she hopes the award will help push other women to strive for greatness.
"It's a great opportunity for women in business to be able to network with other ladies, and women in the work place today really make a big difference," Smith said. "Mississippi has a lot of women that are employed, women that make a true difference in our state. I just feel that it's a great honor, it's a great program, it inspires young entrepreneurs to follow their dreams."
