Crusaders Sweep LSU-Alexandria

Hattiesburg, Miss.- William Carey University picked up their third straight win as they swept LSU-Alexandria in double header action at Milton Wheeler Field.

In game one the Crusaders rallied from a three run deficit with a four run seventh inning as they defeated LSUA, 8-7.

Trailing 4-1 going into the bottom of the third inning, the Crusaders strung together three hits including a RBI double by Tyler Richardson (JR/Bluff City, Tenn.) and two run RBI double by Alex Buechler (SR/Omaha, Neb.) to tie the game at 4.

LSUA retook the lead with a run in the fifth inning and added two more in the top of the seventh inning to open a 7-4 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh the Crusaders rallied as Buechler ripped a one out bases loaded single to score Wes Brown (FR/Denham Springs, La.) and cut the General lead to 7-5. Nick Lowe (JR/Satsuma, AL) followed with a hit to General's shortstop Matt Telscoe who committed a costly error that allowed two runs to score to tie the game and put the winning run on third.

After an intentional walk to Larson Barkurn (SO/Petal, Miss.), Michael Wells (SR/Niceville, Fla.) sealed the game for the Crusaders with a sacrifice fly to center that scored Buehler.

Larson Barkurn picked up the win in game one.

In game two, Nick Lowe's three run home run proved to be the difference as WCU defeated LSUA, 5-2.

Carey jumped out to an early lead as Alex Buechler drove in Tyler James (FR/Slidell, La.) with an RBI single in the first inning.

LSUA moved in front with two runs in the top of the third then Lowe struck in the bottom of the inning belting 0-2 pitch to left field for a three run homer that put the Crusaders up 4-2.

The Generals threatened in the top of the fourth inning getting two runners on with one out however Jake Chambliss (SR/Gulfport, Miss.) came on in relief and worked out of the jam.

WCU added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Tyler James scored on a wild pitch.

Chambliss picked up the win allowing just one hit in two inning of relief. Alex Buechler recorded his first save of the year with three strikeouts in two innings of work.

The Crusaders are back in action this weekend as they travel to Cochran, Georgia, to take on Middle Georgia State College in SSAC action.
