HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg's African-American Military History Museum has begun its Black History Month celebration with a salute to women in the armed forces.
Nearly 20 Pine Belt women who are veterans or are currently serving in the military were honored at a kick-off event Thursday afternoon.
Other activities coming up in February will include documentary screenings, a "Valentine's for Veterans" event and the opening of a new temporary exhibit titled, "Continuing the Legacy: African-American Women United in Military Service."
That exhibit will be on display through March in recognition of Women's History Month.
