Third-quarter explosion keys No. 9 Bobcats past Itawamba

ELLISVILLE – The 9th-ranked Jones County Junior College Bobcats used a 28-point fourth quarter to whip the Itawamba Community College Indians 35-14 here Saturday night at Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field.

The Bobcats trailed 14-7 at halftime, but tied the game when they drove 57 yards in seven plays for a score. Tevin Moore scored from 10 yards out on fourth and 1. Cole Byrd's extra point made it 14-14 with 9:31 left in the third quarter.

Byrd then kicked the ball off into the end zone where it was fumbled by ICC's Grant Kimberlin. JCJC's Lelland Ducksworth, a North Forrest sophomore, recovered the ball for the touchdown and Byrd's extra point gave JCJC a 21-14 lead.

ICC took the ensuing kickoff and two plays later, quarterback Griggs fumbled and JCJC's Daveon Greene recovered at the Indian 17-yard line.

Four plays later, Petal freshman James Milledge scored on a 7-yard run and Byrd's kick gave the Bobcats a 28-14 lead with 7:58 left in the third quarter.

Moore would then score on a 1-yard run with 51.4 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Indians score first when Jaquez McMillian caught a 17-yard scoring strike from Griggs. Tylar Jackson's PAT made it 7-0 with 11:34 left in the first quarter.

The Bobcats tied it on a 27-yard scoring strike from Kenny Coleman to Rodregus Ducksworth with 9:09 left in the first quarter.

ICC took a 14-7 lead when Cartin McBride blocked a JCJC punt and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown with 14:47 left in the second quarter.

JCJC is now 2-0 and will host Southwest Mississippi at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
