4 generations of USM grads celebrate May commencement

It's a special day for graduates from The University of Southern Mississippi, but it's an even bigger day for one Pine Belt family. They're the longest line of Golden Eagle generations to date.

Nicholas Powers is one of several in his family to walk across the stage and receive a diploma from The University of Southern Mississippi. Seven on your side spoke to the Powers family and Nick before his graduation ceremony on Friday.

"I am the first fourth generation graduate of this university. My grandmother, my great grandmother, my dad, and my Aunt Patricia on my mom's side all graduated from USM," Powers said.

Powers, who is graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from the department of music, says his decision to attend The University of Southern Mississippi was one of the best he's made.
