COLLINS, MS (WDAM) - Collins Mayor V.O. Smith says no action was taken by the Board of Alderman to ban or restrict Pit Bulls and Rottweilers inside the city limits as was originally reported on a local newspaper's Facebook page.

He said the dog ordinance was discussed last Tuesday by the board. He says he and the board have concerns about dogs not being in fenced yards and dogs being tied to trees.

Board attorney Tommy Rogers has been asked by the mayor and board to look at different options in improve the ordinance.

"We'll be checking with other cities and towns across the state to see what type of ordinance they have on these type dogs," said Smith. "

Mayor Smith says though decisions haven't been made about the ordinance, changes are possible in the future.
