LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - State Representative Omeria Scott could be trading in her seat at the state capital for a chance to run the city of Laurel.

Scott has turned in her qualifying papers to run for mayor. She is planning to run as a Democrat against longtime Ward Six Councilman Johnny Magee and Battalion Chief Alfred Jordan.

Laurel's current Mayor, Melvin Mack announced last month that he is running for Ward Seven councilman.
