HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hundreds of delegates attending the American Legion Boys State were addressed by retired federal judge Charles Pickering Thursday morning.
He spoke about racial equality and his work as a member of the board of directors of Mission Mississippi, a statewide Christian racial reconciliation organization.
"The challenge that I left with them is that the choices they make in life are going to determine whether they are successful and whether they're leaders of tomorrow or not," Pickering said. "If they make good choices, they probably will get the chance to be the leaders of tomorrow, if they make bad choices, they won't," he said.
He also answered questions from the delegates on topics ranging from teen pregnancy to gay marriage.
