HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A source tells Seven On Your Side Sports that the University of Southern Mississippi's search committee has concluded the interview process and could name its next head football coach within the next 48 hours.

Potential candidates lined up to be interviewed were Southern Miss offensive coordinator Blake Anderson, Murray State head coach Chris Hatcher, University of Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Todd Monkon, former Ole Miss defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix, and Louisiana-Lafayette quarterbacks coach Jay Johnson.

Many around and within the program seem to show support for Anderson, who's in his fourth year with the Golden Eagles and second as the team's offensive coordinator.

Johnson and Nix both have ties to the program. Johnson spent five years as offensive coordinator under former Southern Miss head coach Jeff Bower, while Nix wore the black and gold as both a player in the early 90s and a defensive coordinator in the early 2000s.
