Another inmate was found dead Friday at Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman. However, MDOC investigators said the fifth death and fire reported Thursday, both at Parchman, are unrelated to the recent major disturbance.
Mississippi is suing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Mississippi River Commission calling the intrusion of freshwater into the Mississippi Sound from repeated openings of the Bonnet Carré Spillway “illegal.”
The economic damage to coastal fishing communities, local governments, and tourism-related businesses is still not fully known, but the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources has estimated the financial impacts to fisheries alone as over $160 million.
