Nick Lilja

Chief Meteorologist

Moselle, MS

Nick Lilja grew up all across the United States. He's lived in Oregon, Wisconsin, New York, Virginia, and Texas. But now calls Mississippi home. And he is thrilled to be forecasting the weather for the Pine Belt.

He's been a meteorologist and storm chaser for the last four years – three of which was in Amarillo, Texas. He's chased down more super cells then he can count, survived baseball-sized hail, and was chasing in El Reno, Oklahoma when the EF-3 tornado struck.

He also managed a severe weather website and offered educational forecasts for extreme severe weather events. He is dedicated to forecasting and keeping his viewers safe when severe weather strikes, but he's also interested in teaching his viewers about severe weather, why it happens and what leads to particular severe weather outbreaks.

He graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth Sciences with an emphasis in Atmospheric Sciences. Nick continued his education at Syracuse University and graduated with a Master's of Science in Broadcast & Digital Journalism.

Nick lives in Hattiesburg where he loves to go for a run or long bike ride. And he spends his weekends – when there isn't severe weather – watching sports and cheering for the Beavers and the Orange.
