Visit Hattiesburg offering new incentives for in-person professional meetings, events
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Tourism leaders in Hattiesburg are busy these days, recruiting new in-person professional meetings and events for the Hub City.
Visit Hattiesburg staff say millions of dollars in local revenue from in-person events was lost over the course of the pandemic.
But now, they say interest is building again for face-to-face gatherings, and Visit Hattiesburg is offering incentives to organizations that might want to plan their next conference or convention in the Hub City.
“We’re working very carefully with all of our event venues here in Hattiesburg, from the Lake Terrace Convention Center to the University of Southern Mississippi, to our city facilities as well, and many of our privately-owned facilities, to offer an incentive,” said Marlo Dorsey, executive director of Visit Hattiesburg.
“From now until May 31, if you have a site visit here in Hattiesburg and we can show you all the great things we have to do to meet safely, we’ll give you a discount on your room rental or your meeting space, so we’re really delighted to showcase this and roll this out.”
Visit Hattiesburg also recognized Global Meetings Industry Day Thursday. That’s an initiative from the U.S. Travel Association.
It celebrates the positive impact of business meetings, trade shows and conventions on local economies.
