HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - With a record of 28-3, the William Carey softball team is turning some heads.

The Lady Crusaders are rank No. 7 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll. They are also riding a 14-game win streak while managing to remain undefeated in conference play.

“As a 5th-year senior, this is by far the best I’ve seen in this program,” said senior pitcher Megan Dudenhefer.

“It’s really exciting. We’ve got a lot more. We’ve got so much potential and hopefully all the girls just come out and give it everything they’ve got. If everything goes as planned, we should be playing at the end of May.”

Leading the team in his eighth season, head coach Craig Fletcher knows it’s a combination of many things leading the Lady Crusaders to their success - including learning from past failures.

“I told them last year when we got beat here at regionals, went 0-2, I hope that all summer you think about it and I hope it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth,” Fletcher said.

“When we came back in August we talked about it again. Just trying to challenge them all year long to let’s be better than we were last year. So far, things are going well.”
