MSDH: Daily COVID-19 cases rise by more than 900

JACKSON, Miss. (WDAM) - The Mississippi State Department of Health reported than 900 new daily COVID-19 cases across the state in the latest daily count.

MSDH reported 920 additional cases Thursday statewide and eight new deaths.

Six deaths were reported between Feb. 13-Feb. 23. Another two deaths were discovered through a review of death certificates between Feb. 11-Feb. 17.

The latest figures brought the state’s total cases and deaths since March 2020 to 292,811 and 6,613.

Positive test results may have been made during the past several days and represent individuals who became ill a week ago or more.

In the eight Pine Belt counties, 31,745 COVID-19 cases and 635 deaths have been reported since March 2020:

  • Covington: 2,478 cases, 78 deaths
  • Forrest: 7,140 cases, 136 deaths
  • Jasper: 2,118 cases, 44 deaths
  • Jones: 7,891 cases, 145 deaths
  • Lamar: 5,7844 cases, 80 deaths
  • Marion: 2,507 cases, 78 deaths
  • Perry: 1,254 cases, 34 deaths
  • Wayne: 2,513 cases, 40 deaths

MSDH also is reporting 273,437 Mississippians are presumed to have recovered from the coronavirus.

Health officials said patients must have symptoms of COVID-19, which include a fever of 100.4 and severe cough or chest pain, to be tested. Anyone wanting to be tested should call ahead to make arrangements first.

To date, 2,425,853 people have been tested for coronavirus in Mississippi.
