MSDH: Daily COVID-19 case count tumbles to 544 Monday

JACKSON, Miss. (WDAM) - The Mississippi State Department of Health reported the daily COVID-19 case count dipped to less than 550.

MSDH reported 544 new COVID-19 cases and two additional deaths Monday statewide

Both deaths were reported between Feb. 12-13, including one each in Forrest and Lamar counties.

The latest figures brought the state’s total cases and deaths since March 2020 to 287,980 and 6,464.

Positive test results may have been made during the past several days and represent individuals who became ill a week ago or more.

In the eight Pine Belt counties, 30,760 COVID-19 cases and 615 deaths have been reported:

  • Covington: 2,417 cases, 75 deaths
  • Forrest: 6,870 cases, 135 deaths
  • Jasper: 2,060 cases, 41 deaths
  • Jones: 7,691 cases, 139 deaths
  • Lamar: 5,638 cases, 75 deaths
  • Marion: 2,467 cases, 77 deaths
  • Perry: 1,155 cases, 33 deaths
  • Wayne: 2,462 cases, 40 deaths

MSDH also is reporting 253,140 Mississippians are presumed to have recovered from the coronavirus.

Health officials said patients must have symptoms of COVID-19, which include a fever of 100.4 and severe cough or chest pain, to be tested. Anyone wanting to be tested should call ahead to make arrangements first.

To date, 2,296,509 people have been tested for coronavirus in Mississippi.
