JACKSON, Miss. (WDAM) - The Mississippi State Department of Health reported new daily COVID-19 cases in the state came in at less than 700.

MSDH reported 695 new COVID-19 cases and 32 additional deaths Saturday statewide.

Eight deaths were reported Feb. 11-12. Another 24 deaths were discovered during a review of death certificates between Jan. 11-Feb. 8, including one in each of Jasper and Perry counties.

The latest figures brought the state’s total cases and deaths since March 2020 to 286.343 and 6,461.

Positive test results may have been made during the past several days and represent individuals who became ill a week ago or more.

In the eight Pine Belt counties, 30,496 COVID-19 cases and 611 deaths have been reported:

  • Covington: 2,402 cases, 74 deaths
  • Forrest: 6,820 cases, 134 deaths
  • Jasper: 2.033 cases, 41 deaths
  • Jones: 7,646 cases, 139 deaths
  • Lamar: 5,593 cases, 73 deaths
  • Marion: 2,461 cases, 77 deaths
  • Perry: 1,130 cases, 33 deaths
  • Wayne: 2,411 cases, 40 deaths

MSDH also is reporting 253,140 Mississippians are presumed to have recovered from the coronavirus.

Health officials said patients must have symptoms of COVID-19, which include a fever of 100.4 and severe cough or chest pain, to be tested. Anyone wanting to be tested should call ahead to make arrangements first.

To date, 2,296,509 people have been tested for coronavirus in Mississippi.
