PURVIS, Miss. (WDAM) - The suspect sought in a double homicide killed himself Sunday after being pursued in Harrison County, Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said.

Rigel said Anthony Shane Simmons, 39, shot himself about 10 a.m. Sunday while trying to flee from deputies in the Gulf Coast county.

First-degree murder warrants had been issued for Simmons in connection with an incident that happened around midnight Saturday at 1600 Purvis to Baxterville Road, Rigel said.

The bodies of a man and woman were found at the scene. Both victims appeared to have been shot.

Lamar County Coroner Blake Matherne identified the victims Sunday as James Kevin Lowe, 41, and Amanda West Rutherford, 37.

Rigel said it was believed that Simmons and the victims knew each other.
