HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Rebekah Engle of Purvis scored 19 points Saturday as William Carey University women’s basketball team picked up its first win of the season by downing Southeastern Baptist College 78-62 at Clinton Gym.

Alexus Marsh added 13 points and seven rebounds while Lauren Rowley of Foxworth added 11 points.

The Lady Crusaders (1-1) closed the first period on an 11-2 run to lead 21-11, then bumped the advantage to 35-20 at halftime.

Southeastern Baptist cut its deficit to single digits early in the third quarter before Engle, Rowley and Jamaya Galloway combined for the points in a 10-0 Carey run to open a 19-point lead.

The Lady Chargers got 16 points and eight rebounds from Temeshia Gray, 15 points and six rebounds from Cardrina Nolen and 14 points and seven rebounds from Ziya Theirry.

Carey will hit the road Monday, heading for New Orleans where it will take on Dillard University at 5:30 p.m.

Southeastern will take on Loyola University at 2 p.m. on Nov. 21 in New Orleans.
