HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Arts Council held a book signing Saturday with a University of Southern Mississippi alumnus.
The book signing was held at the Hattiesburg Cultural Center as it was for Ted Jackson, the author of “You Ought To Do a Story About Me.”
Jackson talks about the encounter he had with a former National Football League football player after looking for a homeless camp in New Orleans.
The encounter turned into a book that’s showing people all over the world to listen to one another and to practice the “golden rule” with the people around you.
“He told me his name Jackie Wallace, but I never heard that name because I didn’t grow up in New Orleans," said Jackson. "But the sportswriters filled me in real quick that he was a legend at St. Aug, and played in two Super Bowls and that he had an incredible career and that no one knew who he was anymore. So that picture published in the paper and changed his life, and not immediately. But after about three to five years, it changed mine too. Because Jackie and I became friends after that.”
Along with being a USM alumnus, Jackson is a native of McComb, MS.
