Cub Scouts learn about community service during ‘Scouting for food’

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Some Cub Scouts in Hattiesburg are spending their weekend learning about helping others in need.

Some scouts from Pack 90 at Heritage United Methodist Church collected all sorts of non-perishable foods in front of Corner Markets in Bellevue and Oak Grove.

It’s part of a nationwide activity called, “Scouting for Food.”

All local donations are going to the food pantry at the Edwards Street Fellowship Center.

“This is not something that’s new, it’s something done every year and it helps a lot of people in need, especially in today’s world, where food insecurity is a big problem,” said Marcus McLelland, cub master for Pack 90.

The scouts will also collect food Sunday, Nov. 15, from 1-5 p.m. at the Corner Markets in Bellevue and Oak Grove.
