Cornhole tourney raises funds for Petal Children’s Task Force

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - A Petal business hosted a friendly competition Saturday, to raise money and bring-in food donations for the Petal Children’s Task Force.

A cornhole tournament on South Main Street at Grand Central Outfitters featured lots of competitors in an event that lasted about five hours.

“There are so many people who have been out of work, or they just need food, so we’re there,” said Demaris Lee, executive director of the Petal Children’s Task Force. “Our figures have gone up every month in helping people.”

“They serve so many families and children throughout the year and now with COVID, it’s impacted them a little bit more, so we really felt the need to help them out,” said Tabitha Burden, owner of Grand Central Outfitters.

Petal police officers and Petal firefighters also competed against one another during the tournament.

Petal firefighters took home the win in that competition.
