Man charged after chase, crash that injured Richland officer

RICHLAND, Miss. (WLBT) - An officer with the Richland Police Department was injured during a crash Monday night.

The crash occurred on Florence-Byram Road around 8 p.m.

The injured officer was transported by AirCare to UMMC in Jackson.

Richland police said a CT scan showed Detective Hamilton has a subdural hematoba and was set for surgery Tuesday morning.

Allison Clark, PIO with the Richland Police Department, said that the crash happened when officers began chasing a vehicle in the area of Old Hwy 49 and Cleary Road.

Police say the driver of a Chevy Cobalt refused to stop when an officer attempted to pull him over.

The suspect, Jeremy Miller, turned himself in shortly after his vehicle was located following the crash.

Miller will make a court appearance Wednesday morning on charges of fleeing/eluding/serious injury. No bond has been set.
