1,322 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in MS, 12 additional deaths

JACKSON, Miss. (WDAM) - The Mississippi State Department of Health reports the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state has risen to 108,100.

MSDH reported 1,322 COVID-19 cases and 12 additional deaths on Thursday, bringing the state total to 108,139 cases and 3,152 deaths. The new case total is the highest daily total reported in the state in months.

Two deaths were reported from the Pine Belt as both Forrest and Perry counties reported one each.

Positive test results may have been made during the past several days and represent individuals who became ill a week ago or more.

In the 10 Pine Belt counties, 12,332 COVID-19 cases and 348 deaths have been reported:

  • Covington: 886 cases, 25 deaths
  • Forrest: 2,863 cases, 76 deaths
  • Greene: 439 cases, 17 deaths
  • Jasper: 651 cases, 16 deaths
  • Jefferson Davis: 379 cases, 11 deaths
  • Jones: 2,739 cases, 81 deaths
  • Lamar: 2,035 cases, 38 deaths
  • Marion: 915 cases, 42 deaths
  • Perry: 465 cases, 21 deaths
  • Wayne: 960 cases, 21 deaths

MSDH also is reporting over 94,165 Mississippians are presumed to have recovered from the coronavirus.

Health officials said patients must have symptoms of COVID-19, which include a fever of 100.4 and severe cough or chest pain, to be tested. Anyone wanting to be tested should call ahead to make arrangements first.

To date, more than 904,005 people have been tested for coronavirus in Mississippi.
