JACKSON, Miss. (WDAM) - The Mississippi State Department of Health reports the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state has risen to nearly 105,000 cases.

MSDH reported 294 COVID-19 cases and five additional deaths on Sunday, bringing the state total to 104,932 cases and 3,101 deaths.

One new death was attributed to COVID-19 in Marion County.

Positive test results may have been made during the past several days and represent individuals who became ill a week ago or more.

In the 10 Pine Belt counties, 12,156 COVID-19 cases and 342 deaths have been reported:

  • Covington: 878 cases, 25 deaths
  • Forrest: 2,824 cases, 76 deaths
  • Greene: 426 cases, 17 deaths
  • Jasper: 635 cases, 11 deaths
  • Jefferson Davis: 376 cases, 11 deaths
  • Jones: 2,695 cases, 81 deaths
  • Lamar: 1,993 cases, 32 deaths
  • Marion: 915 cases, 42 deaths
  • Perry: 458 cases, 21 deaths
  • Wayne: 952 cases, 21 deaths

MSDH also is reporting 9,577 Mississippians are presumed to have recovered from the coronavirus.

Health officials said patients must have symptoms of COVID-19, which include a fever of 100.4 and severe cough or chest pain, to be tested. Anyone wanting to be tested should call ahead to make arrangements first.

To date, people have 904,005 been tested for coronavirus in Mississippi.
