JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - The Jones County Board of Supervisors extended the county’s mask order during their meeting Monday. This comes after Gov. Tate Reeves lifted the statewide mask mandate last week.
“The board has decided to keep the mask mandate in place for all county buildings," Jones County Board Attorney & CAO Danielle Ashley said. “So that will include the courthouse in Laurel and Ellisville, but also the county buildings, justice court, the tax office, and they also decided to keep the community centers closed. The board just wants to be extremely cautious before taking away the mask mandate. They think that it’s prudent to keep the mask mandate in place right now.”
In addition to the mask order, the supervisors also voted to continue keeping community centers closed.
The mask mandate for Jones County is set to expire in 30 days.
