FORREST COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - The search for two people who possibly drowned in the Bouie River in Forrest County has been suspended for the night.
Maj. Jamie Humphrey of the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office said the search was suspended for a 37-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy around 9:30 p.m. Humphrey said it became too dangerous for divers with limited visibility, but the divers will pick up where they left off at first light Saturday.
Emergency crews began searching near where the Leaf and Bouie rivers come together just north of U.S. Highway 11 in Forrest County around 5 p.m. Friday.
Petal Police Chief Matthew Hiatt said it was reported that the teen and adult were swimming just north of the highway when they went under the water and did not resurface.
Agencies participating in the search are the FCSO, the Forrest County Dive Team, Forrest County Emergency Operations Center, the Hattiesburg Fire Department, the Petal Fire Department, the Jones County Dive Team and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
