MSDH: 674 new COVID-19 cases confirmed, 30 additional deaths reported

JACKSON, Miss. (WDAM) - The Mississippi State Department of Health reports the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state has risen to 32,800.

MSDH reported 674 COVID-19 cases and 30 additional deaths on Wednesday, bringing the state total to 32,888 cases and 1,188 deaths.

A death was reported out of the Pine Belt as it comes from Wayne County.

Positive test results may have been made during the past several days and represent individuals who became ill a week ago or more.

In the 10 Pine Belt counties, 4,405 COVID-19 cases and 155 deaths have been reported:

  • Covington: 396 cases; 5 deaths
  • Forrest: 927 cases; 43 deaths
  • Greene: 108 cases; 9 deaths
  • Jasper: 266 cases; 6 deaths
  • Jefferson Davis: 114 cases; 4 deaths
  • Jones: 1159 cases; 49 deaths
  • Lamar: 500 cases; 7 deaths
  • Marion: 308 cases; 12 deaths
  • Perry: 76 cases; 4 deaths
  • Wayne: 551 cases; 16 deaths

MSDH also is reporting over 22,167 Mississippians are presumed to have recovered from the coronavirus.

Health officials said patients must have symptoms of COVID-19, which include a fever of 100.4 and severe cough or chest pain, to be tested. Anyone wanting to be tested should call ahead to make arrangements first.

To date, more than 327,087 people have been tested for coronavirus in Mississippi.
