The shooting suspect has been identified.
ATTALA COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) - We now know the name of the man that arrested for shooting a female postal carrier in Attala County on Thursday.
U.S. Postal Inspector Tony Robinson confirms 28-year-old Roland Dampeer has been arrested in the case.
Dampeer appeared in federal court in Oxford today.
He will have a preliminary hearing there next Thursday.
Dampeer is accused of shooting a rural postal worker in the head and is now in federal custody after being released from the hospital, WTVA reports.
Sheriff Tim Nail said the suspect first tried to kidnap a woman from the Sunflower Grocery Store near Kosciusko, but she managed to escape.
The man later encountered a second woman. The second woman, a rural postal worker, was delivering mail along Highway 35 North when she was shot.
A state trooper shot the man, prompting him to transported to the hospital.
The postal worker remains in extreme, critical condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Investigators with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the United States Postal Inspection Service are assisting with the case.
