HATTIESBURG, Miss (WDAM) _ Over a two-day span, the University of Southern Mississippi added 15 football players for the future during December’s early signing period.
Below, are short biographies of each.
Copiah-Lincoln Community College/Starkville High School/Starkville
Junior College: 3-star prospect by 247Sports; 2-star prospect by Rivals...Played two seasons for the Wolves, appearing in 19 games…Recorded 59 tackles (45 solo) with 6.5 tackles for loss, including 4.5 sacks…Recovered a fumble, made two interceptions and broke up 11 passes…Prep: Played in 40 games over three seasons for the Yellowjackets…Finished with 136 tackles (88 solo), with 13 tackles for loss, including a sack…Had six interceptions.
East Mississippi Community College/West Point High School/West Point
Junior College: First-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American as a sophomore after leading the nation with 75 receptions…Second nationally with 1,055 receiving yards and 12 touchdown receptions…All-Region 23 selection; Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College’s North Division Most Valuable Offensive Back...Posted five, 100-yard games; had at least one TD catch in each of East Mississippi nine regular-season games…As a freshman, had 14 catches for 113 yards and a touchdown on East Mississippi’s national championship team…Prep: Helped the Green Wave to consecutive Class 5A state championships as a receiver/defensive back…Played in Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Football Classic…Class 5A first-team All-State by Mississippi Association of Coaches…As a senior, caught 42 passes for 967 yards and 11 touchdowns…Also, had 17 tackles and four interceptions, returning one for a TD.

Junior College: As a sophomore, earned second-team NJCAA All-America honors with 29 tackles…Had team-high 12 tackles for loss, including eight sacks…Also forced the fumbles…Earned All-Region 23
Had 16 tackles for loss, including 12 sacks, and forced five fumbles…As a freshman, helped East Mississippi to a nation al title with 14 tackles, including four sacks, and two forced fumbles...Prep: Helped the Green Wave to consecutive Class 5A state football crowns…After senior season, played in 2017 Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Football Classic …Named Class 5A All-State first-team by Mississippi Association of Coaches.
East Central Community College/Aliceville High School/Aliceville, Ala.
Junior College: Named a NJCAA second-team All-America offense selection…Named All-Region 23; Mississippi Association of Junior and Community first-team All-South Division…Voted the MACJC's ost valuable offensive lineman…Played in 11 games during his two-year stay in Decatur, Miss...Prep: Played in 37 games, finishing with 82 tackles (18 solo), including 23 tackles for loss with two sacks…Also picked off a pass.
Frank Gore Jr.
Killian High School/Miami, Fla.
Prep: Rated 3-star prospect, 65th-best running back prospect in country by 247… As a senior, rushed for 1,111 yards and 13 touchdowns on 113 carries … Also caught nine passes for 66 yards and a score … Completed 17-of-22 passes for 213 yards and two touchdowns with an interception … Son of long-time National Football League running back Frank Gore Sr.
Iowa Western Community College/ Rice Lake High School/Rice Lake, Wis.
Will have three years eligibility … Junior College: NJCAA honorable mention All-America…Played in 12 games, helping Iowa Western win its last eight games, including a 34-19 win over Hinds Community College in Graphic Edge Bowl in Cedar Rapids, Iowa … Collected 108 tackles (71 solo), with 11 tackles for loss, including a sack … Earned All-Iowa Community College Athletic Conference, All-Region honors … Prep: Played on Division III state championship team his senior year … Played in Wisconsin Football Coaches Association’s Large School all-star game … An all-region selection at wide receiver his senior year.
Oak Grove High School/Hattiesburg
Prep: Three-star prospect by both 247Sports, Rivals … Appeared in 24 games in three seasons, catching 88 passes for 1,318 yards … Averaged 15.0 yards-per-catch…Scored 16 touchdowns…Helped lead Oak Grove to back-to-back Class 6A South State titles and appearances in the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A state championship game in 2018 and 2019…Represented the South team in the 2019 Bernard Blackwell Football Classic.
Mike Pleas, Jr.
Lincoln High School/Tallahassee, Fla.
Prep: Played his senior year at Lincoln after transferring from Lawton Chiles High School … The late bloomer finished with 43 tackles (27 solo) with 11 tackles for loss, including seven sacks … Picked off a pass and had two forced fumbles … Helped Lincoln to an 8-4 season and the second round of the Florida state playoffs.
