LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) - A Laurel High School student is in custody after allegedly threatening to shoot a fellow student on social media.
Laurel Police Chief Tommy Cox said his department was made aware of the threat Sunday night, and the teenage suspect was arrested early Monday morning and taken to the juvenile detention center.
Cox said the threat raised concerns. However, he said there is no immediate threat to the school.
“There is no current threat to any students at LHS. LPD and LHS take these types of threats very seriously and caution parents to educate their children as to the consequences of the threats,” Cox said in a news release.
